We are Kobanzame, a vintage shop in an old wooden house in Kawagoe. With silver, the back often tells you where a piece came from. This chain carries three marks.
The marks
The chain is stamped "MEX", "925" and "MJ-01" — a Mexican government registry mark used from 1979. The first letter is the city, the second the silversmith's initial, the number the registration order. It shows a Mexico City workshop, from the 1980s onward. The pendant is also stamped 925 (its country of origin is unknown).
Design
A stepped form with fine hand-stamped triangles, and a soft pink coral at the centre. Southwestern in style, small but surprisingly dense with detail up close. It is a slide pendant: the chain runs through the back, so it never flips over.
Condition and wear
Fine scratches and tarnish from age across the piece; the stone is not chipped. At about 55 cm the pendant falls just below the collarbone. Over a T-shirt or an open shirt collar.
